The Pirates
An elaborate period piece from the French headquarters of Pathe Freres, The Pirates opens as a sailor boy makes goo-goo eyes at his sweetheart. Enter the ferocious pirate captain, who after being repulsed by the heroine arranges her kidnapping. The hero gets wind of the abduction, whereupon he gathers his friends together to lay siege upon the pirate's vessel. As the good guys and bad guys slice and dice one another, our hero rescues the girl and together they make their escape. The scene in which the pirate ship is boarded by the hero and his companions was thrillingly staged, at least so far as the trade magazine Variety was concerned.
