Showdown
California's Palm Canyon and Santa Cruz Island served as the backdrop for this lively actioner. The story opens as the survivors of a German submarine raid wash up on the shores of a tropical island. One of the group is Bob Curtis (George Cheseboro), a natural-born "take charge" guy. Using basic survival skills, Bob shows the others how to live on the coconuts and shellfish available to them, and also manages to smooth over the inherent animosities and rivalries amongst the castaways. In so doing, he wins the love of snooty heroine Lydia Benson (Myrtle Gonzalez), who previously wouldn't have given the low-born Curtis the time of day. Critics of the period had no trouble recognizing Showdown as yet another derivation of Barrie's The Admirable Crichton.
