1922 Drama

As might be guessed, this spectacle about the Borgias was Italian-made. Although it is subtitled "the Story of Lucretia Borgia," the film's focus is really on her brother, the villainous Caesar. What it lacks in historical accuracy, it makes up for in beautiful settings. The film opens with the election of Rodriga Borgia (Eugenio Gilardoni) -- the illegitimate father of Caesar and Lucretia -- to the office as Pope Alexander VI. As Pope, he gives Caesar nearly unlimited power, and what Caesar doesn't have, he takes. Caesar plots to murder Duke Alfonzo of Aragon, the husband of his sister, Lucretia (Countess Irene Saffo Momo). Lucretia constantly watches over her husband, but she is called away to attend an important banquet, and one of Caesar's men finally stabs Alfonzo to death. When it is discovered that Alfonzo was killed under the direction of Caesar, it causes the people to revolt. He is killed by an angry mob. more..
