Midnight in Paris

2011 Comedy

Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Carla Bruni star in Woody Allen's romantic comedy about a family on a business trip in the City of Light. As a young couple engaged to be married experiences a profound transformation during their visit to Paris, an idealistic man with a romanticized view of the city finds that there's plenty of truth to that old adage about the grass being greener on the other side. Michael Sheen, Mimi Kennedy, and Kurt Fuller co-star.

Director: Woody Allen

Starring: Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Carla Bruni

Reviews

  • A movie that's loving and wistful and often hysterically funny.

Mick LaSalle - The San Francisco Chronicle

  • In Woody Allen's beguiling and then bedazzling new comedy, nostalgia isn't at all what it used to be - it's smarter, sweeter, fizzier and ever so much funnier.

Joe Morgenstern - The Wall Street Journal

  • Darius Khondji's cinematography evokes to the hilt the gorgeously inviting Paris of so many people's imaginations (while conveniently ignoring the rest), and the film has the concision and snappy pace of Allen's best work.

Todd McCarthy - The Hollywood Reporter

    26 April 2013

  • What's fresh about Midnight in Paris is the way he (Allen) identifies with Gil's idealization of the past, of the Paris that represented art and life at their fullest.

    Peter Travers - Rolling Stone

  • With Midnight in Paris, Allen has lightened up, allowed himself a treat and in the process created a gift for us and him.
