1989 Drama

The true story of Canadian journalist Victor Malarek is dramatized in this well-meaning little film. When first we see him, Malarek (Elias Koteas) is a ex-juvenile offender, given a new lease on life when he is hired as a cub reporter on the Montreal Star. Witnessing the death of a street kid at the hands of an insensitive cop, Malarek makes it his mission to expose the corruption-ridden social welfare system in Canada. His writings also try to delve into the motivations for the many teen suicides inflicting the area. Malarek: A Street Kid Who Made It is based upon the newsman's autobiography, written while was a top reporter at the Toronto Globe and Mail.
