Knock On Wood

1998 Comedy

With this romantic comedy, the scripting-directing team of Donna Silverberg and Bradley Fisher offered a homage to Hollywood's memorable screwball comedies of the '30s. When New York Jewish princess Randy Hartman (Rikki Dale) learns that her relatives experienced their last breaths in a variety of bus, train, and airplane accidents, her superstitious fears dictate that the only safe way she can travel to her cousin's wedding is in an automobile. When earthy Midwestern rancher Gale Forman (David Elliott) picks her up in his vintage Chevrolet, the film switches from color to black-and-white. The two then set forth on a car trip, cross-country and seemingly at cross purposes, until they detour around their differences to make romance their destination. Shown at the 1998 Dances With Films Festival of the Unknowns (Santa Monica).
