David

1952 Documentary

This 40-minute documentary was written and directed by Paul Dickson. Produced as Wales' contribution to the Festival of Britain, David stars D. R. Griffiths, a nonprofessional, as the title character. Griffiths plays the caretaker of a Welsh school (his actual profession) who takes time out one day to reflect on his life. The rest of the film concerns David's coal-mining youth, his debilitating injury, the death of his son, and his final triumph over adversity. Though much of David is spoken in the Welsh language, the viewer will have no trouble following the story.
