Caught

1908 Drama

The half-reel melodrama Caught was released by the Vitagraph Company, one of the more reliable film firms of the nickelodeon era. The story revolves around an attempted bank robbery, masterminded by a band of clever, if unsubtle, thieves. One of the crooks obtains a job at a pawnshop which is conveniently adjacent to the bank. A phony message from home lures the pawnbroker away from his establishment, whereupon the crooks go to work burrowing their way into the vault. After the heist, the pawnbroker, instantly suspecting that his new clerk was responsible, dutifully informs the police. The outcome of the film was implicit in its title.
