After Dark
On the New York stage, William A. Brady performed the role of Old Tom Dalton in Dion Boucicault's play. As a film producer, Brady got Alec B. Francis to play the part. Back in the Spanish-American War, while Tom was fighting, his wife left him for Lieutenant Bellamy. Tom took to drink and now, as an old man, he sells newspapers, while Bellamy has gone on to run a gambling house. He also serves as ward for Tom's daughter, Fanny (Dorothy Green). Bellamy and his partner, Morris, have George Medhurst under their power because they know he forged his father's name on a check. But instead of marrying his cousin to inherit a huge sum, George elopes with Fanny. Bellamy tries to get Fanny out of the way by drowning her, but she is rescued by Tom. The police nab Bellamy and Morris and George's cousin generously lets him have the money he forfeited when he didn't wed her. Old Tom settles down with his daughter and new son-in-law. There is no relation between this picture and the 1924 film of the same name. more..
